A visitor at an exhibition displaying photos of female homosexuals at Ho Chi Minh City’s Youth Cultural House in November 2009. Gay children suffer emotional persecution from parents who were themselves the victims of community prejudice, the first institutional study on the lesbian community in Vietnam has found.

Reported by Minh Hung – Calvin Godfrey

Chi, a 23-year-old lesbian, told researchers that her parents locked her in a virtual prison after learning of her relationships with other women.

“It was such a horrifying time. My parents knew Diep and I loved each other. They seized my cell phone, cut the home phone line and locked me in our house… They always went through my pockets to see if Diep had sent something to me. They even beat and insulted me,” she told researchers from the Institute for Study of Society, the Economy and the Environment (ISEE). (more…)

Today, my anatomy teacher took up the test from 2 weeks ago but i wasnt there on that day so i have to retake the test. Funny how, she managed to let me walk around the tiny campus for an hour ish before i can do the test, she could’ve give the test to me to do it instead of waiting for her and the rest of the class for that hour. Anatomy test is dam hard, all the questions got so tricky that i fail for sure. My Boo Boo Sarah, usually got 86-96% on every tests but today she failed badly with 46%? OMFGawd, that is when i realized i fail for sure lol. Something really wrong with my professor, 150 questions worth 8%? I studied my ass off with this test, i better get something, failed for sure but at least i tried my best bwahaha.  80% of students failed the test today and only 20% passed their test lmfao. While i retake the test at the front desk, she gave out a bunch of work and an assignment due in 5 weeks worth 5% which we have to draw 60 pictures of anatomy out bwahaha (she is one hell crazy woman).  The way she teach is dam crazy, she talk really fast and give out assignment or homework or asked us to read the chapters and the work and not much of explain to us…… Anyways, that is for today….

I figured out my problems with the “It gets better” campaign.  While it is nice to have an outreach campaign telling queer kids that things will get better for GLBT teens, what is the point of telling a kid who is suffering right now that things will get better.

*I am not saying the campaign is completely a waste, there are heartbreaking and uplifting videos inspired from the campaign, one of them being from Kate Bornstein* see it here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxhZJJAGjW0

But if you were a queer kid in the 90s, did it help you to prevent suicidal thoughts and the daily onslaught of school bullies that Elton John and Ellen Degeneres are gay famous people who seem to have it all? (more…)
