A response to “the games that they played” September 19, 2010

I find Neil Strauss’ list (or the “eleven simple steps”) disturbing because the list goes from coy under-playing to downright coercion. Words like “disarm”, “isolate”, and “extract” do not sound remotely romantic or even dirtily sexy to me. The whole thing reads like a how-to guide to beating someone up or raping someone (should such guides exist, and, after seeing this list, I no longer doubt they do).
“The games that are played” obviously are not played by nearly everyone. Many people probably do not feel comfortable with the predator-prey model of dating and picking-up.
Personally, I know I wouldn’t answer Neil’s calls any time soon.

These so-called “games” can be played on anybody, including (queer) men. It’s simply disturbing that there is a book out there, having been published, sold, and read, that teaches the steps to systematically lie and overcome. These are not games that utilize deception, non-consensual power, and coercion, to get to people.

I’m suprised that you weren’t disturb by Robert Greene’s “Mix Pleasure with Pain.” Sad that both of these authors are best sellers. Sad that I’ve seen it being played upon women before. Sad that we can’t just be completely honest and not to Neil Strauss’ extend daily play the game.
